Living the Adventure

Good day. My name is Susan Kelly Skitt and I believe walking by faith is one amazing adventure. At times life’s journey is dangerous and the way seems difficult. But when you know Jesus as your personal Savior, He promises to be with you every step of the way. I’ve experienced God’s grace and help in times of need. He wants to do the same for you. Jesus makes life worth living. So come on - Let’s live the adventure.

Names of God - Part 2

There's a lot in a name, isn't there?

And it's interesting to know that the one true God has names in the Hebrew language that describe him and help us to know him better. So, here's Part 2 in our 4 part Names of God series.

A blogging friend in the first post in this series asked if I remembered the song, El Shaddai. I do and I loved to sing and play that song on the piano. In fact, it's one of my 13-year-old nephew's favorite songs.

I pray that today, these 4 names will speak to your heart in a special way and help you to better know the God who loves you and gave his life so you might live.

El Shaddai
Meaning: God Almighty
Reference: Genesis 17:1; Psalm 91:1
Significance: God is all powerful

Yahweh Yireh
Meaning: The Lord Will Provide
Reference: Genesis 22:14
Significance: God will provide our real needs

Yahweh Nissi
Meaning: The Lord is My Banner
Reference: Exodus 17:15
Significance: We should remember God for helping us

Adonai
Meaning: Lord
Reference: Deuteronomy 6:4
Significance: God alone is the head over all

Live the adventure,

I like the big print. You can't miss it!!

What about the name "Jehovah" (I may not have spelled it right."

I have a young boy, a Jehovah's Witness in my class at school. He insists on calling God Jehovah...and not "God". (I work at a public school, so I'm limited in my ability to talk to my students about God/Jesus)

El Shaddai is my favorite. There is a song with that in it but I can't remember what the rest of the words are.

I was touched by your comment at forensics and faith and came by to say you have given me peace in my personal storm, reminded me of God's unalterable love. He is not surprised though we may not understand. I need to know that again and again. Thank you for your comment.

I've been studying the names of God as well. Here is a post I recently wrote http://wp.me/pFHm8-1u I just love the personal nature of His very being!

Greg C- El Shaddai, El Shaddai, El Elyonna Adonai, age to age you're still the same, by the power of your name. Repeat... :) (pardon any spelling mistakes)
