Living the Adventure

Good day. My name is Susan Kelly Skitt and I believe walking by faith is one amazing adventure. At times life’s journey is dangerous and the way seems difficult, but when you know Jesus as your personal Savior, He promises to be with you every step of the way. I’ve experienced God’s grace and help in times of need. He wants to do the same for you. Jesus makes life worth living. So come on - Let’s live the adventure!

The Next Generation

I just can't get off my mind lately the importance of teaching our children in the ways of the Lord our God.

Moses said this to the people of Israel before God took him home to Heaven (see Deuteronomy 32): "Set your hearts on all the words which I testify among you today, which you shall command your children to be careful to observe--all the words of this law. For it is not a futile thing for you, because it is your life, and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over the Jordan to possess." (Deut. 32:46,47)

Do you see what Moses said? It is not futile. Oh sometimes as a mom I've thought, "Lord, this is too hard. I'm not getting through! I feel like giving up." Oh how wrong - how very, very wrong. God is at work - always! As we teach our children what God says in the Bible and learn to live it out in our daily lives, it makes a difference. It really does. Remember what Romans 10:17 says? "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God."

The Bible says that God had Joshua take Moses place of leadership. Judges 2 says that the people"served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen the great works of the LORD which he had done for Israel." (Judges 2:7)

Now here's the really sad part. It breaks my heart. Judges 2:10 says, "When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who DID NOT KNOW THE LORD NOR THE WORK WHICH HE HAD DONE FOR ISRAEL."

Parents, our duty is serious. Our kids need to know about the Lord Jesus Christ and who better to show them than the very people that God has given to love and care for them? There is nobody who can do your job better. Trust God. He knows what He is doing. He knows our weaknesses and He is our strength. He is our Father and He is ready lead us all the way.

Live the adventure,
Susan

"But take careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded to you, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul." Joshua 22:5

Oh Susan,
Thank you for this great encouragement. There are days that it feels like the road is very long full of potential snares and pitfalls...makes me want to fast forward a few decades and have the assurance that all my children will be serving the Lord...but in the midst of it...God does bring encouragement to keep on the path...like my 5 year old asking if we can pray about something yesterday which blessed my heart and like this post full of scripture and the truth.

Thank you dear friend,

Helen

Great lesson and not only our children but the children of others. I remember learning so much about God from my best friends parents. His father just happened to be a preacher. At that time, our family didn't go to church for reasons too complicated to mention here. I became friends with this guy and began spending time with him and his family. After a while I began going to church with him and finally I convinced my family to go with me. That lead to us joining the church and finally having my father baptized. I never knew he hadn't been baptized before.

Serious truths here. I thought the same thing that Greg said as well. Excellent exhortation, Susan. Thank you.

Sobering words and sobering thoughts, aren't they, Susan. We can't be reminded too much of our solemn duty to rear our children for the Lord. They are going to needit all the more in the times that are coming, I believe. Actually, those times are here already. Oh, that our children would walk in the truth!
